Jennings Cup at Pequot Yacht Club

The annual Jennings Cup was held at Pequot Yacht Club in Southport Connecticut in August, 2009.. The Jennings Cup, named after Burr Jennings grandfather Arthur O. Jennings is an annual child/adult race in which the adult must crew for a family member child as skipper in an Ideal 18.

The team of Burr Jennings and his nephew's Austin Jennings as skipper and Alex Ehalt as fore-crew posted an impressive 3rd place just 1 point behind tied first and second place boats. Although a seasoned skipper in the Optimist class, this was Austin Jennings first attempt at formal sailboat racing. Austin performed admirably posting top 3 finishes in nearly each of the 5 races of eight boats.  

Arthur O. Jennings was one of the founding members of Pequot Yacht Club and one of the early commodores. Burr Jennings father, Ted, introduced the Ideal 18 to Pequot Yacht Club and developed a sailing program that subsequently proliferated throughout yacht clubs on Long Island Sound and ultimately much of the country.
